Three years ago today, the newly redeveloped Aviva Stadium reopened its doors to the public. The official opening ceremony on the 14th May 2010 marked the beginning of a new era for both the FAI and the IRFU in their new home. Since its opening, the stadium has hosted over 60 large scale events and welcomed over 2 million people through its turnstiles.
The stadium has hosted some of the world’s greatest teams and artists, as well as one off show piece events such as the Europa League Final and Navy v Notre Dame.
As Aviva Stadium prepares for great celebrations this weekend when it hosts the Heineken Cup Final, the Stadium Team took five minutes out of their busy match week schedule today to mark the occasion and reflect on what has been a very busy but extremely rewarding 36 months.
Commenting on the third anniversary of the re-opening of the stadium, Martin Murphy the Stadium Director said:
"Aviva Stadium is building on the traditions of the past and has already made a significant economic impact. We are proud of what has already been achieved to date and we look forward to many memorable occasions in the future”
